GTP at ISTSS 2026
The Grady Trauma Project (GTP) was excited to attend the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) 42nd Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas! This year’s theme was “Traumatic Stress in a Troubled World: Collaboration on Evidence and Action”. From the neurobiology of trauma to innovative treatments, the conference explored how research, collaboration, and evidence-based action can impact the field of traumatic stress studies.

GTP investigator, Dr. Sanne van Rooij, gave a talk titled “Personalized Neuroimaging-Guided Brain Stimulation for PTSD: A Clinical Trial” as part of the “Trauma Across Contexts: Biological, Clinical, and Community Perspectives” Symposium. Her talk discussed promising results suggesting that a brief, two‑week personalized brain stimulation treatment could improve posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. You can view Dr. van Rooij’s full abstract here: https://pmg.joynadmin.org/documents/1102/6aa84aaf04b60260eb14bba2.pdf

The GTP was very proud of our Postdoctoral Fellows, Dr. Chaela Nutor and Dr. Nicolas Murgueitio Meneses, who each received the ISTSS Underrepresented Scholars Award!

Our team also presented seven posters across various GTP research studies. You can read the full poster abstracts here: https://pmg.joynadmin.org/documents/1102/6aa84ab5ae10e647292aaee3.pdf
Posters Presentations:
Rachel Jones: “Body Connection as a Mechanism of Change in Mindfulness-Based Treatment for PTSD”
Sarah Kuhil: “Race-Related Stress and Adverse Mental Health in Black Perinatal Women: Collectivism as a Cultural Strength”
Samhita Lellapalli: “Social Drinking Motives Moderate the Association Between Lifetime Trauma Exposure and Alcohol Use Among Black Adults”
Nicolas Murgueitio: “Enduring Effects of Childhood Violence Exposure on Brain Function and Transdiagnostic Risk Following Adult Traumatic Stress”
Chaela Nutor: “Beyond the Checklist: Centering Black Mothers’ Voices in Perinatal PTSD Screening”
Trinidi Prochaska: “Trauma Load Moderates the Relationship Between Menopause Symptoms and Performance on an Attentional Control Task in a Community Sample of Black Women”
Alisha Sylvester: “Difficulties with Emotion Regulation Mediate the Relationship Between Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptom Severity and Attentional Control”

The GTP is extremely grateful for all of our participants and partnerships that make this work possible. We look forward to presenting at ISTSS’s 43rd Annual Meeting in D.C. next year!
